The Yod is the smallest of the Hebrew letters yet no other letter equals its significance. It always refers to YHWH. YHWH is the G-d who no longer looks down on us from heaven but has reached down to us, first through the Torah and then through Messiah Yeshua who fulfilled the Torah's promises of blessing mankind through Avraham. Now, through Yeshua we can all truly return to the source of light and truth and enter His presence.

Why is this discussion list different from all other Zohar discussion lists? To understand we need to start with another question. What is Zohar?

Note: Kabalah is a "mixed bag" spiritually speaking. Without a good firm foundation of the Word of G-d it is easy to err and get into forbidden areas of study and praxis. Kabalah is man's attempt to accomplish, using lengthy study, what Yeshua died to give us through His blood sacrifice. I do not recommend study of Kabalah. There are much better and safer ways to get what Kabalah can only tease you with.

The Zohar is one of the books of Kabala (Jewish Mysticism). It is a commentary on the Torah: first five books of the Bible. Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy. The focus is on the supernatural and esoteric nature of biblical authors and their intentions. The authors of the Zohar reveal the "secret knowledge", which is the basis for the creation of the universe.

In this text, the lightning can distract us from focusing on these words. In the same way, the things of this world distract us from learning HaShem's secrets.

Because witchcraft has taken hold of Kabala, it has been blacklisted by most Christian groups and some of the rabbis. They have not blacklisted the Tehilim (Psalms of David) which is also used by witchcraft, so why do so with a commentary on the Torah?

Yeshua died for us to give us access to "the kingdom of heaven" which is the same as Kabalah. However it takes many years of study in Kabalah to come even close to what was provided through Yeshua. I strongly suggest that you do now waste your time studying Kabalah. It is man's attempt to know the rules of operation and work in HIS kingdom. This was freely provided for us through Yeshua.

Rav Shaul (Paul) teaches that there are "mysteries" of our faith.

The writers of the Bible convey an awareness of the concepts found in the Zohar. The early Messianic community of Qumran have clear references to concepts found in the Zohar throughout their writings as is the case for other ages of the "Christian" branch of Judaism. Rav Shaul (Paul) teaches that there are "mysteries" of our faith. He also talked about visiting the "third heaven" as though we would understand his meaning.

The rabbis teach that one should not study the Zohar without a sound base of Torah understanding. If you have not read the Torah you have no business delving into the mystical teachings. In fact, one can become disoriented and even psychologically unbalanced without the stability provided by the Torah.

The Bible is understood on four levels:

When we study the Torah, what do we see, a simple commandment, do and don't, or are there pictures of the supernatural behind the words?

Peshat - "Simple understanding" of the text without embellishments.

Derash - "Extrapolation" of understanding by exploring alternate meanings of words, phrases and context. Most ministers and rabbis use Dirash for their weekly sermons.

Remez - "Hinting at" other scripture references. Portions of Torah remind us of other parts of Torah or sacred writings.

Sod - "Hidden". Study of the not-so-obvious aspects of the text. Some of these aspects include; homilies, gematria (numeric value of words), alternate Alef Bet set, equidistant spacing, meanings of the letter in context, mystical shapes of the letters, and more.

Zohar helps remove the shade from the light of Torah. The closer you get the brighter the light.

One cannot go immediately to Sod - "Hidden". Study of the not-so-obvious aspects of the text. Some of these aspects include; homilies, gematria (numeric value of words), alternate Alef Bet set, equidistant spacing, meanings of the letter in context, mystical shapes of the letters, and more. without exploring first thePeshat - "Simple understanding" of the text without embellishments. . It would be tantamount to studying quantum math without learning to add, subtract, multiply and divide. On a simpler level, one cannot master acrobatic skating until he has learned to skate forwards. Many of the Zohar's concepts can never be grasped without going through the required process of learning. In addition, we messianic believers teach that you cannot safely study Zohar without Yeshua and the "immersion in the Ruach HaKodesh" (Holy Spirit).

One cannot master acrobatic skating until he has learned to skate forwards.

Another difficulty is that one cannot skip around without having gotten the basic concepts taught at the beginning of the book.

New believers/converts are STRONGLY discouraged from studying Zohar or any part of Kabala. It is too easy to get sidetracked and journey down erroneous trails leading to confusion and possible mental disorders without proper training and orientation.
